Document signed by James Southerne, Secretary to the Admiralty, fl. 1690-1694.
I have communicated to the Board your letter concerning a Convoy for the JAMES of Southampton, loaded with provisions for Jersey and Guernsey, but you have not mentioned where the Ship is. If in the River she should be ordered to the Buoy of the Nore, where care will be taken for a Convoy for her as soon as possible. If not, inform me where she is, so that directions can be given accordingly.
The hired ships ARCHANGEL (now at Harwich), the SMIRNA MERCHANT and SCEPTRE, the former at the Nore and the other in the Hope, are in need of Stores. You are directed to hasten the Owners as much as possible in sending to the said Ships what Stores they need, enabling them to proceed on their respective voyages.
