Document signed by James Southerne, Secretary to the Admiralty, fl. 1690-1694.
In answer to your letter of yesterday's date concerning the desire of the Victualling Commissioners for a Convoy to the Ships bound with Victuals for Jersey, and the other Vessels bound to Portsmouth with Beer, I have informed the Commissioners that the BONAVENTURE (now in the Downs) is ordered to Convoy all Vessels bound to the Westward to any Port as far as Plymouth, and to return to the Downs with such as shall be ready to come to the Eastward from that or any Port on this side, and therefore advised them to hasten down the Victualling Ships to the Downs, to have the benefit of the said Convoy.
