In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Following disappointing Spring Tides, the Master Shipwright and Master Attendant at Chatham have opined that the preparing of ships for sea can be satisfactorily and more speedily performed by hauling down and breaming at the Hulk as opposed to be docked. It is pointed out that the ships' hulls have only recently been coated and that cleaned bottoms should result. The Admiralty, after due consideration, agree to the procedures provided the bottoms of the Capital ships are inspected and caulked before going to sea.
