In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

Officers of Yards are to be reminded that no superfluous works are to be undertaken to ships such as decorating, carving or joinery beyond what is strictly necessary in preparing them for sea; and no cabins are to be reconstructed following dismantling prior to recent action with the enemy. Officers flouting these instructions are to be reported.
