In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
You are directed to consider what vessels should be built to be employed in towing their Majesties ships up and down the Medway, upon any occasion when the wind is contrary. Give your opinion to this Board and also an estimate of the charge of building. You are to have the oatmeal now in store at Portsmouth, which was ordered for the army in Ireland, sold to their Majesties best advantage. The Commander of the CONCEPTION prize advises us that the fourteen pounders for his ship cannot be serviceable, she being much lower between decks than the last 5th Rates. You are to consider what number and nature of ordnance will be fitting for this ship and report your opinion.
