In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Your letter of 13 February sent us an estimate for building and equipping 27 new ships, with 17 of the 3rd Rate to be about 1100 tons to carry 80 guns and 10 of the 4th Rate to be about 900 tons and carry 60 guns, according to the late Act of Parliament. You also propose that the ships should be of the following dimensions: 3rd Rates with a gun deck of 156 ft and a keel of 125 ft. Breadth in the midships 41 ft and depth in hold of 17ft 4 inches. 4th Rates with a gun deck of 145 ft and a keel of 118 ft. Breadth in the midships of 37ft 6 inches and depth in hold 15ft 8 inches. You are directed to have the 27 ships built accordingly.
