In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Richard Crosdell and Jeffrey son, Mariners late of the DARTMOUTH, give oath that they knew John Roberts to be Master and that Captain Pottinger ordered the longboat with 8 men to go ashore on the Isle of Sky where John Roberts was killed by a sword wound to the head. The other members of the longboat crew being forced to flee for their lives.[Not dated]
