In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Sir John Guise, Vice Admiral of Gloucestershire, has advised this Board that some ships for their Majesties' service may be conveniently built in parts of Bristol, where he states there are considerable quantities of timber and iron works may also be procured in Gloucestershire. You are directed to make inquiry about the building of ships in those parts and what materials and workmen may be had thereabouts at reasonable rates, and to report to this Board whether, in your opinion, any of the twenty seven new ships should be built there.
