In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

Thomas Austin, late Gunner of the VICTORY, by reason of age and infirmity is incapable of further employment. We have thought fit to discharge him and it appears from your report of 9 March that he has served between 23 and 24 years, which is more than the time for such officers to be superannuated by the establishment made by His Majesty in Council dated 11 December 1690. You are directed to settle a pension on him during his natural life, equal to the wages and allowances for Gunners of 2nd Rate ships, to commence from when he was discharged from the VICTORY. You are to sign bills quarterly on the Treasurer of the Navy for this.
