In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

James Clements, late Boatswain of the ALPHIN hulk, by reason of age and infirmity is incapable of further employment. We have thought fit to discharge him and it appears from your report dated 4 February that he has served upwards of 27 years, which is more than the time for such officers to be superannuated by the establishment of His Majesty in Council of 11 December 1690. You are directed to settle a pension on him during his natural life, equal to the wages and allowances of Boatswains of 4th rate ships, to commence from the time he was discharged from the ALPHIN. You are to sign bills on the Treasurer of the Navy for this,
