In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
You informed us in your letter of the 12th inst; to our Secretary that the defects of the NORTHUMBERLAND are such as cannot be repaired at Portsmouth without hindrance to the other Ships ordered to be refitted there.
We direct you to cause a survey to be taken of the Ship by the Portsmouth Officers, and order them to give an opinion whether she may be brought safely to Chatham at this season of the year, or if not, what works should be carried out to put her in a position to do this.
You are to report to this Board as soon as possible.
