In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

Your Lordships granted that £6500 be imprest for payment of clothing of the first Marine Regiment, now under my command, which is charged against the pay of all the Officers of the Regiment, including the Lieutenants who are not as concerned in the clothing as only the Captains can reimburse themselves out of the Soldiers wages, also because of so many being aboard in the service and other reasons; difficulties have arisen in collecting the payments and so the Officers have had no part of their pay for 1695. Wherefore the Marquess desires your Lordships to transfer the 1696 imprest of £6500 so that the Officers may be paid for the year 1695. Signed Rt. Hon. Marquess of Carmarthen. [Date unknown].
