In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

Briefing Note? The Lords of the Treasury by their order of 12 Nov. 1694 signified by Mr Guy, directed that £6851.5.0 be paid to Mr Richard Acton and Partners for clothes and medals supplied to the First Marine Regiment and charge the same as an Imprest on the Regiment, and by Your Honours order of the same date was to be abated or cleared before any wages were paid to any of the regiment. But the sum was to be deducted out of the Regiments 1694 pay. But a Memorial from the Marquess of Carmarthen to the Treasury detailing the severity to the Officers and Soldiers desiring the Imprest be on the 1695 pay. The Treasury referred the Memorial to Your Lordships . On you having no objections the Treasury order dated 5 June 1695 the wages for 1694 as well as part of the soldiers pay be paid to the Regiment on his order as the establishment of the 22 Feb 1693 directed. This will result in the slops consuming the whole of the Regiments pay for that year. But should the sum of £6851.5.0 be transferred to the pay of the Officers for their year 96 as directed they will be under more difficulty to clear the same than at this time, as the clothing for 95 will be a debt upon them, if transferred from year to year may exceed their whole pay for one year and leave the situation unresolved. [Signed by an unknown Admiralty official].
