Poems by Dobbie and his family, circa 1760-1808.
(1) Notebook containing a long piece of poetry by Dobbie entitled ‘Epistle to my friends at Archly Abbey on my return to Bombay in the SCEPTRE, 26 July 1807 after an unsuccessful attempt to reach Cape of Good Hope on my way to England'. Later there are copies of poems by Dobbie's mother Sarah Dobbie (née Staple), including lines written on the occasion of his brother's tenth birthday in 1779. George Dobbie, surgeon in the 75th Regiment, died at Calicut in India on 8 October 1794.
(2) Three loose sheets with pieces of poetry by Dobbie entitled ‘To a Withered Flower’, ‘To a Picture’, ‘The Old Cat’s Complaint’ and Impromtu’, all dated between June 1807 and February 1808.
(3) Typescript copies of some of the above poems, made by a descendant.
