In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
We require you to consider the Compliment of the Galleys MARY, CHARLES and JAMES now serving in the Channel (where their Oars are of little use) compared with 4th Rate ships of similar dimensions. On the 26th Nov. last you proposed an establishment of Men and Guns for the three 4th Rates building at Deptford, Woolwich and Portsmouth equal to the largest ships of that Rate, whereas the new ships are no larger than the BRISTOL, we require you to report your reasons for this.
