In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
The recent Act of Parliament has directed the building of 27 new Ships for the Navy, viz 17 3rd Rates to be about 11000 Tons to carry 80 guns each, and 10 4th Rates to be about 900 tons to carry 60 guns each. We direct you to consider the proper dimensions of each Rate of ships and report to us as soon as maybe on the Ordnance you judge fitting for them to carry. And also you are to present to us an estimate of the cost of the building the ships, and fitting them with Boatswain and Carpenters sea stores
