In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Your report of 12 February on the petition of Margaret Pratt, widow of John Pratt, Mariner which states that it appears by a certificate from Captain Carter, late Commander of the PLYMOUTH, that John Pratt was killed in an engagement with the French at Bantry Bay on 1 May 1689. In distributing their Majesties' Bounty, which requires a certificate signed by three officers (the Surgeon being one), this appears to be lost and you cannot without order give her relief. We direct you to make the usual allowance to the widow notwithstanding the want of a certificate.
