In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Captain Mathew Aylmer was appointed last year as Commander-in-Chief in the Mediterranean, and had under his command 12 ships, over and above fireships and other small craft. He should have the benefit of the Order in Council of 19 May 1675, whereby it was established that whoever had command of 12 ships of war would be entitled to receive, during the time that he should be out of the King's service at sea, the same pension or allowance of half-pay as a Rear Admiral of the squadron. You are directed to settle a pension on Captain Aylmer of £150 a year and to sign bills quarterly on the Treasurer of they Navy for payment of this.
