In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Your report of 29 January proposed the number of hulks which you judge necessary. You are directed to have two hulks more for Chatham and one for Deptford provided as soon as may be. The LEOPARD hulk expected from Cadiz is to be one of them if she is found fitting. You are also to have the wreck of the EXETER fitted for a hulk and brought from Plymouth in the summer and to send the estimate of providing and fitting the additional hulks. The agent Greenhill reports that the HENRIETTA so annoys the harbour at Catwater that if she is not removed in a few years she will block the harbour. If the chests which were used in the weighing of the ST DAVID are sent from Portsmouth and with the assistance of the hulk and her company, they believe they shall be able to weigh the wreck this summer for a charge of £1,000. You are directed to have the chests, cables and other stores sent from Portsmouth. As the Ordnance may receive a considerable advantage by the saving of the HENRIETTA's guns, they should contribute to the charge of the weighing. You are asked to consider what proportion of the charge of weighing they should contribute.
