In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Enclosure: Copy pf a letter from the Robert FitzGerald, the Duke of Leinster in which he approves the craft to be used for landing the Army but comments that the Troops would be greatly exposed to enemy fire. He informs that he has devised and tested a musket-proof blind and recommends they be fixed in the fore-part of the landing craft for the protection of both Troops and Seamen. He recommends also that the vessels be equipped with light- weight cannon, or failing that Patereroes, of which there may be sufficient quantity stored in the Tower of London
