In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Some of the Owners of the Merchant Ship LUMLEY CASTLE, having at their attending us last night offered to let the said Ship to serve as a Man of War in their Majesties' service, at eight shillings a ton per month, we direct you to hire her accordingly and cause her to be fitted out to Sea by the Owners as a fourth Rate for Channel service, she being allowed two hundred and eighty Men and fifty six Guns according to what is proposed by you in your letter of July 4th.
