In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
The loss of the SWALLOW, PORTLAND, PHOENIX and HAPPY RETURN has been inquired into at a Court Martial on board the BRITANNIA on the 9th of July. The Court has aquitted the Commanders and Officers of these Ships.
We direct you to cause them to be paid the Wages due to them for their service in these Ships.
In the sentence of the Court Martial it appeared to the Court that the chief reason of the SWALLOW being forced into Harbour was due to her not being well repaired at Sheerness.
We direct you to make a strict inquiry into ths matter and Report back to us.
