In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Extract of a letter from Captain Hawkins of HMS ADVICE. Vice Admiral Rook has told me the he had acquainted your Lordships of my complaints to him of my Master but had no response. I send this to remind Their Lordships. He is totally unfit, having so totally debauched himself by drink that he is frequently mad, and in Plymouth when we were provisioning he was 5 days onshore without my leave. He is a person who has been examined to be fitting to be a Master to take a 4th Rate to the West Indies. His name is Cornelius Stubbins. Now a stranger. But if their Lordships consider him to be fit to be recommend to the Navy Board to have a Warrant for the Advice.
