In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

Reference your letter of the 1st of this Month, reporting of the practice of sending workmen from Chatham to Sheerness as the work requires, is causing increasing difficulties to both Yards. Your proposal to have workmen allocated full time to Sheerness will require lodgings to be built, which you estimated to be £305 2s 0p. We direct you to put the work in hand with all despatch. In your letter of the 30th of last Month you sent us a copy of a letter from the Commissioners of Victualing where they propose employing Henry Pike to be the Victualing Agent for the West Indies Squadron with a Salary of £250 a year for Himself and Clerks, we approve of the appointment, and direct you to inform the Victualling Commissioners and to ensure he is instructed in his duties and responsibilities.
