In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Michael Norris, late Carpenter of the ROYAL OAK, by reason of age and infirmity contracted in the service of the Navy, is incapable of employment and we have thought fit to discharge him. It appears by your report dated 5 April that he has served as Carpenter of several ships between 29 and 30 years, which is more than the time limited for superannuation by the Establishment made by His Majesty in Council dated 11 December 1690. You are directed to settle a pension on him during his natural life, equal to the wages and allowances of a Carpenter of a 3rd Rate, from the time he was discharged from the ROYAL OAK. Bills to be signed quarterly on the Treasurer of the Navy for paying this pension.
