In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
The Admiralty Commissioners in 1690 ordered the Navy Paymaster to stop two pence per day out of every Marine Soldiers' Pay, during the time on board their Majesties' Fleet that year, towards the Payment of their Clothes, which still remains in the hands of the Navy Treasurer. The full charge of Clothing for that year being placed to the Officers' Accounts and deducted even out of their personal Pay, as appears by their Accounts stated in the Treasury, it is therefore humbly prayed that the aforesaid two pence be paid by the Navy Treasurer to the respective Captains to whom they justly belong.
The Treasury Commissioners refer this Memorial to the Admiralty Commissioners who are asked to consider the allegations contained therein and report their opinion to their Lodrships whether these allegations are true, and what is fit or reasonable to be done.
