In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

A request has been made to this Board for payment of the Wages of Lieutenant Samuel Wells, deceased, late of the SANDWICH, notwithstanding there is no Journal of the proceedings of the said Ship as is required by Admiralty instructions, it being alleged that after his death his Trunk was rifled and his goods and Journal lost.
We direct that you cause the Wages due to him to be paid, although no Journal was produced as it should have been.
