In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
You have informed us by your Report of the 15th inst; on the Petition of Jane Butt, Widow of Dr Jeremiah Butt, late one of the Physicians of their Majesties' Fleet, that finding two persons borne as Physicians' servants aboard the Ship he served in, though his Commission makes no mention of servants, it was thought reasonable to allow him one.
Upon consideration we direct you to cause an allowance of Wages to be made to her for the other servant, but that for the future the Physicians of their Majesties' Fleet be allowed but one servant each.
