In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Your letter of 30 June advised us that the Surveyor of the Navy proposes the setting up of a 6th Rate in place of the new 5th Rate ready to launch at Sheerness to keep the workmen employed. You are directed to have a new 6th Rate set up with the same dimensions of those lately built. You are to have the small timber at Deptford, Chatham and Portsmouth to be converted into frames for 5th and 6th Rates, laid apart to be seasoned. Having received a letter from the Commanders of the CROWN and MEDWAY at Plymouth, giving an account of being detained there for want of provisions. We send an extract of their letters and direct you to make a speedy supply of victuals to them. You are directed to have the SOESDYKE yacht, upon her next coming to Liverpool, to be cleaned and that men be entered for the new 5th Rate building at Sheerness which we have named the RYE. Mr Blathwayte having signified His Majesty's pleasure that the Purser of the CENTURION shall be allowed pay on his account for provisions supplied to Scotch Officers in their passage from Leith to Ostend. Mr Renatus Jordan was appointed Muster Master of the Red Squadron in the Straights by Admiral Russell and you are to have the wages due to him from the date of Admiral Russell's commission to that of Mr Holmes who superseded him.
