In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
I have orders from Lord Berkeley to sail with the MONTAGUE, but have no more that 20 tunns of beer and 26 bags of bread, which is not 10 serving days. It is not my fault I stay behind Captain Beaumont for I am ready, but stay only for beer and bread. (extract of a letter from Captain Cleveland of the MEDWAY). Yesterday I spoke with the Agent Victualler of this port, who tells me that he has no provisions at present and neither does he promise any. I presume it will be 4 or 5 days before I can be supplied with any sufficient to go to sea with. Signed by Captain Cleveland, Commander of the MEDWAY; and Captain Wade, Commander of the CROWN.
