In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
John Clarke, late Gunner of the COMET bomb vessel, is to be appointed Boatswain of the PORTSMOUTH prize in place of the former removed into the DEAL CASTLE. You are to enter him accordingly together with such allowance of wages and victuals for himself and servant. His warrant is to be dated 17 July 1696.
