Document signed by William Bridgeman, circa 1646-1699, English civil servant and Secretary to the Admiralty between 1694 and 1698
Commissioner Greenhill has advised us that Master of the LANCASTER was ordered to exchange with the Master of the DREADNOUGHT, but being old and his eyesight failing he would rather quit his employment than go on the voyage. You are directed to send down another Master to the DREADNOUGHT at Spithead as soon as possible and to prevent the Master of the DREADNOUGHT being carried to sea. The DREADNOUGHT is due to sail on the first fair wind.
