Document signed by William Bridgeman, circa 1646-1699, English civil servant and Secretary to the Admiralty between 1694 and 1698
In answer to your letter of 23 July, the KATHERINE hoy, Henry Jobber, Master, laden with stores for Portsmouth is to be seen safely to the Downes by the GUARDLAND now cruising off the North Foreland and ordered to the Nore. There the first of the ships bound westward will carry the KATHERINE to Portsmouth. You are directed to have the KATHERINE hasten to the Nore so that the GUARDLAND does not wait for her.
