In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
You are directed to give orders to the Commissioners of the Victualling to send one of their members to Torbay to provide fresh provisions for the seamen in the fleet. Lists of the turned over men in the fleet are to be sent to you and you are to have the men paid wages due to them to the time they were last turned over, out of money supplied for wages. You are also directed to have the wives, widows and mothers of seamen of the COLCHESTER to be paid in the same manner as directions we gave you for the NEWCASTLE. You are also to have wages paid to Mr Beverly due to him as Muster Master of the Blue Squadron in the Straits, from the date of his commission granted to him by Admiral Russell to 1 May 1696. Commissioner Loe has advised us that there is a great scarcity of provisions at Plymouth so that many advice vessels are detained there for want of these. You are directed to order the Commissioners of the Victualling to solicit the Treasury for money to provide victuals.
