Document signed by William Bridgeman, circa 1646-1699, English civil servant and Secretary to the Admiralty between 1694 and 1698
In answer to your letter of today an order is signed for the Commander of the CHESTER, or any man-of-war bound westward to convoy the hoy laden with stores for the ships with Rear Admiral Benbow to the Downes. Another order goes to any of His Majesty's ships bound for the Nore to take car of her on her return thither. Tonight an order will be sent to Sir Edward Gregory to deliver to the Master of the hoy.
