In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Lord Berkeley has stated that the Fleet is short of beer but the Commissioners for Victualling have informed the Admiralty that there are several ships with beer available. The Admiralty wants to know whether these ships have sailed with the RYE from the Downs, or where they are now and whether they have taken any beer on board in the River, or at Portsmouth, and if so what quantities; and ordering a spare cable to be allowed to all 4th to 6th Rates going on Foreign Service. The CHATHAM, which has been ordered to the Nore, is to be supplied with ten weeks Victuals for her highest complement of Men at full allowance. The small French Prize that the MEDWAY has brought in to Plymouth is to be bought for HM Service.
