Document signed by William Bridgeman, circa 1646-1699, English civil servant and Secretary to the Admiralty between 1694 and 1698

I have received your letter of 19 October, with the copy of one from the Commissioner at Portsmouth, complaining of improper behaviour and indecency to his family by commanders of His Majesty's ships. Their Lordships sent orders last night to Sir Cloudesley Shovell, directing him to call Captain Jennings, Captain Norris and Captain Lycott before him and give them a severe reprimand and to advise them that their Lordships expect them to excuse themselves to him by going to him singly and asking his pardon.
