In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Sir Cloudesley Shovell's letter of 21 October, advised us of the amount of provisions required for the ships of his squadron to complete to 4 months, notwithstanding our repeated directions for keeping that proportion entire to the time of the squadron's sailing. We send you an extract of Sir Cloudesley Shovell's letter, together with an account of the victuals wanted, with copies of the orders he gave to the Agent of the Victuallers at Portsmouth. You are to give orders to the Commissioners of the Victualling to have the provisions completed to 4 months until they sail and to have the Treasurer of the Navy solicit the Treasury for money.
