Document signed by William Lowndes, 1652-1724, Secretary to the Treasury (from 1695) under King William III and Queen Anne
By direction of the Treasury Commissioners the Navy Treasurer discounted several Tallys and Orders of Loan on the Imprests of Wines, Vinegar and Tobacco dated the 22nd March 1695/6 amounting to five thousand one hundred pounds at the rate of 25th per cent, whereof £2000 was paid to Sir Joseph Herne and £1800 to Mr Haistwell to satisfy Bills of Exchange.
You are directed to make out Bills according to the method of your Office for allowing to the Navy Treasurer the sum of one thousand two hundred and seventy five pounds for the discount of the said Tallys and Orders at the rate of 25th per cent as aforesaid.
