Letter from the carpenter of HMS Alceste to his Father. The letter contains a first hand account of the ship wreck of HMS ALCESTE on 18 February 1817 on a rock in the Java sea and subsequent rescue. The letter is undated, but was written after 7 July 1817. Also enclosed a typed transcript of the letter.
