From an isolario (island book) of the Mediterranean with descriptions but no plans of other islands including Cuba, Sumatra, Iceland, England etc. Bound with an Italian treatise on navigation, 'Tuto quelo richiede a l'arte da navigar', and notes on the lodestone in English, in contemporary Venetian binding.
Administrative / biographical background
The Battle of Lepanto, in which the Holy League had defeated the Ottoman fleet with the aid of Venetian ships, had taken place a few years previously in 1571.
