Merchant Shipping: Agreements, Crew Lists And Official Logs: CROMDALE.
Agreements, crew lists and logs covering voyages from the CROMDALE's maiden voyage from Glasgow to Sydney in 1891, to her loss in 1913. There are twelve lists, some covering over a year at sea, listing the crew, their character, wages, previous ship, place of birth and in what capacity they were engaged (e.g. Able Seaman). There is a log covering her last voyage but this was written up afterwards to ensure the crew were paid. There is no account of the loss of the CROMDALE. The original agreement was lost with the ship.
Administrative / biographical background
The CROMDALE (official number 98561) was one of two clippers built in 1891 for the Australian wool trade for Donald, Rose & Co. By 1913 these were the last 2 sailing vessels still plying the Sydney wool trade. On her return from one of these voyages, the CROMDALE was wrecked near Baast Point, off the Lizard, on the night of 23 May 1913.
