Handwritten fictional account of the Battle of the Falkland Islands by Commander John Frederick Denman, Fl. 1914 - 1955.
The story centres on a young officer in the flagship INVINCIBLE who is the only surviving member of the bridge personnel after the battle. The story is partly based on fact. Denman was training during 1914 and entered into the Navy as a midshipman on 7 April 1915, serving in the INDOMITABLE. He was present at the Battle of Jutland, serving in the INDOMITABLE and was made sub-lieutenant on 15 March 1917. Based on his service record, he was not present at the Battle of the Falkland Islands. See National Archive record sources: ADM 196/147/46 and Admiral 196/122/105.
