In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Enclosure: Copy of a letter from Richard Carter Captain of the VANGUARD that has run aground in Sandwich Bay in which he refers to difficulties in retaining his crew but expresses hope for saving his ship. He is grateful for assistance from Ramsgate gentry and from Mr Emms, Builder from Dover, who is fitting a new rudder. He also opines that a visit from officers at Chatham would be advisable in order to eliminate problems which his own team may not have anticipated.
