In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
The ASSURANCE and GUERNSEY have been surveyed at Deptford and are beyond repair. The men of the ASSURANCE are to be turned over into the CORONATION Hired ship and those belonging to the GUERNSEY into the BONAVENTURE Hired ship when taken into service; and are to be paid up until last March. The surveyors however think that the ASSURANCE could serve as a Guardship or be stationed at the Nore and used for pressing men; but the Admiralty would prefer that she should lie in the Downs and call for a report. Otherwise, she is to be fitted to lie at Sheerness and take the place of the EAGLE Guardship.
