In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

Her Majesty having been pleased by her two Orders in Council dated September 12th to refer to this Board two Petitions, one of John Hocker, late Instrument to the Clerk of the Cheque at Portsmouth, and the other of Robert Ruffen, House Carpenter, Anthony Surrenden, Bricklayer, and other Workmen of that Yard, complaining of several Frauds practised by some of the Officers of that Yard, and of the ill usage which the Petitioners have received for endeavouring to detect the same, we herewith send you Copies of these Petitions and direct you to Order two members of your Board best spared from Service in Town to repair to Portsmouth, and in conjunction with the Commissioner there make enquiries into the matters contained in the Petitions and hearing the Parties complaining, and complained of, face to face, and other ways best for finding the truth of the allegations, and to make a Report of the whole matter to the Board as soon as may be.
