In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

The Victualling Commissioners have represented that they have in several years past over issued the proportions of Victualls declared for, which they think ought to be made good only of the Declarations for the next year. We direct you inform the Commissioners that the over issue of Victuals in any year are not to be made good out of the Proportions declared for in the subsequent years, but that the whole quantity of Victuals in each years Declaration ought to be provided by them for answering that years service without regard held to any over issue in former years.
You are to direct the Commissioners to proceed accordingly by providing the Victuals declared for the service of the Fleets for next year.
We further direct you to cause a survey to be taken of the quantities of Victuals of each Specie which remain in the several Victualling Ports on the last day of this month, and transmit the same to this Board as soon as may be, together with an exact state of the issues which have been then made of the proportions of Victuals Declared for at each Port for this years' Service.
