In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
The Council of War of the Admirals and Commanders of the Fleet, held at Chatham on the 20th December, has represented that the Longboats belonging to the Fleet are too small (especially those for the first, second and third Rates) to answer the necessary services on which they are employed.
They propose that a remedy be found for the future, if possible by next Summer.
It is also proposed to us that the Flag Officers should be allowed Clerks, as well as the Commanders, and you are to consider what is fitting to be done and report to this Board.
