In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
His Majesty has by his order to this Board under his Signet and Sign Manual dated April 19th directed that the Men in the Main Fleet, now going to Sea under the Command of Admiral Russell, should be put to short allowance of victuals (drink excepted) of six to four Men's allowance from the time that they sail from the Downs, and to continue till his Majesty signifies his further pleasure.
The Men shall be paid monthly on board their respective Ships such an allowance in Money in consideration of what victuals shall be deducted from them as by the practice of the Navy in such cases.
We have ordered the Admiral to put the Fleet to short allowance accordingly.
We direct you to order the Victualling Commissioners to take care that the Men are constantly paid monthly on board their respective Ships accordingly.
