In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Philip Simpkins, who formerly served as a Midshipman on board the YORK, was sent to town by this Board on 14th April 1693 to give evidence for their Majesties at the late Commission of Oyer and Terminer against some prisoners taken in the PRINCE OF WALES Privateer.
On the 14th August he entered himself on board the BRTTANIA where (not appearing) he was rated as Able Seamen till the 22nd January last and then discharged.
We direct you to cause him to be paid as a Midshipman in the YORK to the 14th August, and as an Able Seaman on the BRITTANIA from the 14th August to the 21st April 1694.
